Annoying setback for Barca!

FC Barcelona is in the middle of the season preparation for the upcoming season with coach Hansi Flick. Keeper Marc-André Ter Stegen is still missing and could still be out for months.

The inauguration on August 10 will be postponed because the official approval is not available.

FC Barcelona has to postpone the return to its “living room”. Because not all the necessary work has been completed, the Catalans are still waiting for official approval to open the renovated Camp Nou stadium.

Coach Hansi Flick’s team will therefore have to play its test, planned for August 10 in the traditional “Joan Gamper Trophy”, in the Estadi Johan Cruyff, which has a capacity of only 6,000 spectators, just outside the city. The opponent has not yet been determined.

Barca voluntarily goes on the road at the start of the season

The Spanish league starts a week later, but for Barca the season starts with three away games at their own request. It is questionable at least whether the home game on September 13/14 against FC Valencia will take place at Camp Nou.

The arena will still be a construction site when it returns anyway. Work on the new third tier, the VIP areas, the roof and parts of the outer facade as well as the infrastructure around it has not yet been completed. Barca also left open how many fans could be there when it returns.

The project, which began in 2023, is scheduled to be fully completed in the summer of 2026, with a capacity of 105,000 spectators. Barca recently played its home games in the Olympic Stadium.
