Die letzten vier Achtelfinals beim World Matchplay versprechen absolute Hochspannung. Unter anderem spielen Weltmeister Luke Littler sowie die ehemaligen Champions Gerwyn Price und Michael van Gerwen.
Den Start der Session übernehmen allerdings Andrew Gilding und Dirk van Duijvenbode, die um 20.15 Uhr aufeinandertreffen.
Anschließend trifft Price auf Chris Dobey, der Ricardo Pietreczko in Runde eins ausschalten konnte. Im dritten Spiel duelliert sich Weltmeister Luke Littler mit Jermaine Wattimena aus den Niederlanden.
Zum Abschluss der Session messen sich Michael van Gerwen, der sich in Blackpool im neuen Look präsentierte, und Josh Rock.
Die gespielte Distanz ist im Vergleich zur ersten Runde minimal länger. Im Achtelfinale spielen die Darts-Stars nun ein Best-of 21 Legs, zuvor war es ein Best-of 19.
Qualifiziert sind die Top 16 der Order of Merit sowie die Top 16 der Pro Tour Order of Merit, die nicht bereits über die große Order of Merit qualifiziert sind.
Das World Matchplay ist nach der Darts-WM das prestigeträchtigste Turnier im Darts-Kalender. Es wird seit 1994 ausgetragen. Rekordsieger ist Phil Taylor (16 Titel), seit 2018 trägt die Trophäe seinen Namen.
