Ex-Bayern-Held: “Don’t even know how much money I have”

Wojciech Szczesny has a quiet criticism of coach Hansi Flick. That's what it's about.

Javi Martinez continues his career at the age of 36 and is embarking on a new adventure. The Spaniard is moving from Qatar SC to Al-Bidda SC in the second Qatari league. The defensive midfielder has been playing for Qatar SC since the summer of 2021, after leaving FC Bayern.

The club did not provide any information about the length of the contract with his new employer.

From 2012 to 2021, Martinez experienced the best time of his career in Munich. During this time, he won numerous titles and also won the World Cup and European Championship with the Spanish national team.

In the podcast “Los Fulanos,” the ex-Bayern hero spoke about his career shortly before his transfer. The episode was released at the end of last week. In it, Martinez revealed, among other things, that he has no overview of his finances.

Martinez talks about his money

“I don’t even know how much money I have in my account because I’m focused on football. If I want to buy something, it’s enough for me as long as I have money in my account,” said the Spaniard.

In the conversation, the defensive specialist also looked back on the summer of 2012. At that time, FC Bayern brought him in for a record fee of 40 million euros.

“My brother had all the information, but I was totally excited. I was no longer a child at the time and had read in the press that many clubs were interested in me,” Martinez began.

But then he only wanted to go to the Bundesliga. “But then Heynckes called me after they lost the Champions League final in Munich against Chelsea. He told me that he wanted me as a key player between attack and defense, that Bayern would pay 40 million and that they would win the Champions League with me.”

But there were other teams in the race. “In fact, there was a Spanish club that offered 32 million, but was rejected,” says the star.

After that, he made a world career. But it almost didn’t happen. In the 2006/2007 season, Martinez had the darkest time of his career immediately after arriving at Athletic Bilbao.

At just 18 years old, he came from Osasuna and immediately got into the relegation battle with the traditional club. “It was embarrassing, I didn’t want to go out. With the arrival of Joaquin Caparrós, things fortunately improved at Athletic, because we almost had relegation in sight. It was the first time in history that Athletic could be relegated.”
