His new coach, Thomas Frank, is very happy about the transfer of the midfielder, but was also quite surprised that Palhinha was even available.
Joao Palhinha is moving from FC Bayern to Tottenham
“I was a little surprised. Bayern fought for him for almost two years and now they wanted to give him away, for whatever reason,” Frank said in an interview with football.london.
“To be honest, I’m not interested in the reasons,” Frank clarified: “We were able to get him and that’s a great opportunity for us.”
In this case, Tottenham was lucky: “There are not many clear number sixes on the market. That’s why we were a bit lucky to get him.”
Frank raves about Palhinha
Palhinha is “a super player. He convinced everyone in the Premier League in his two years at Fulham and often plays in the Portuguese national team, sometimes it doesn’t work out at a club for reasons that I don’t want to judge. All that mattered to me was whether he wanted to come to us, and he did,” Frank said about Palhinha.
The Dane was also very convinced of the qualities of his new player: “He is very disciplined, can read the game and has strong qualities to prevent the opponent’s attacks. That will help us especially away from home or against teams that are strong on the counterattack. Having such a player is incredibly important.”
