Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha delights in the friendly against Bilbao. The English press celebrates.

The second game for the FC Liverpool professionals at home at Anfield could not have gone better for Rio Ngumoha. In the first part of the double test against Athletic Bilbao, the 16-year-old scored after just two minutes in the 4:1 (3:0) and later set up another goal. The English press raved about the teenager’s gala.

The Daily Mail celebrated directly: “The cat is out of the bag! What a start and what a goal from this teenage sensation! Slot would probably have liked to slowly bring him into the first team, but he has a good chance of becoming an important part of the team this year.” The newspaper already made the player a “child prodigy.”

The Sun also took note of the appearance directly and focused on the comments of Liverpool fans on social media. “They are making fun of Chelsea while the 16-year-old ex-Blues child prodigy Rio Ngumoha scores a fantastic solo goal.” Ngumoha only came to the Reds from FC Chelsea last September.

His teammate Ben Doak was also delighted. On LFC TV he raved: “The guy is just incredible. He has talent and a future ahead of him.”

Does LFC already have a Díaz successor?

After the departure of Luis Díaz, who moved to FC Bayern, Ngumoha could be the ideal replacement on the left in the long term. When he was substituted in the middle of the second half in the game against Bilbao, he already received thunderous applause.

In the encounter, the Englishman grabbed the ball after two minutes on the halfway line, started irresistibly and finally curled the ball into the goal with his right foot just before the edge of the penalty area. Three minutes later he set up Darwin Nunez’s 2-0 with a header.
