Jess Thorup wants to be managing Al-Ahly in the future. The former Augsburg coach is moving to the desert.
Most recently Augsburg, now Cairo: Former Bundesliga coach Jess Thorup (55) is the new coach of Egyptian record champions Al-Ahly FC.
The former FCA coach signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Africans. The club announced this.
The “Red Eagles” experienced a season start that was average for their standards. After five wins from eight games, they are in third place in the table.
The desert club was also represented at the Club World Cup 2025 in the summer. After only two points from three games, however, they were eliminated as last in the group stage.
For Thorup, after stations in Denmark, Belgium and 65 competitive games at FC Augsburg, it is the first job outside of Europe.
The Dane took over the Fuggerstädter in October 2023. After twelfth place in the past season, there was a separation.
