The return of Steven Gerrard to the coaching bench of Glasgow Rangers appears to have fallen through. The Liverpool legend cites family reasons as the cause.

Baby as Reason for Rejection
But after the newspaper reported that Gerrard would want control over transfers in case of a return, the England legend declined to the bosses Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe.
Another reason for Gerrard’s rejection appears to be the fact that his family still lives in Bahrain. They had moved there after he took over the coaching job at the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq.
In a podcast with his former English teammate Rio Ferdinand, Gerrard revealed that several clubs had been interested in him in the past, but: “My daughter just had a baby and I became a grandfather. I wasn’t ready yet. So these offers or calls came at the wrong time.”
Nevertheless, the door for renewed cooperation with Gerrard and the Rangers is not yet closed. The 45-year-old had led the Scottish club to the championship in 2021.
Will Röhl become the new Rangers coach?
The Rangers want to present a new coach before the next home game against Dundee United and have already held talks with other candidates.
Danny Röhl seems to have made a positive impression. The former assistant of Hansi Flick and ex-coach of Sheffield Wednesday is said to be on the shortlist.
