Mats Hummels cut an unfortunate figure during the EuroLeague game between FC Bayern Basketball and Olimpia Milano (64:53), but ultimately showed great sportsmanship.
The 2014 World Champion attended the game between Bayern and Milan in Munich’s SAP Garden on Tuesday evening and found himself in the spotlight for a brief moment during a timeout at the end of the third quarter.

Hummels participated in a challenge where he had to throw three balls from the free-throw line into the basket. Arena announcer Mitja Lafere had approached him during a timeout and asked if he wanted to take a bet: If Hummels made one of the three attempts, a young FCBB fan would receive a jersey paid for by the Munich team.
Hummels agreed and made clear that if he missed all three attempts, he would personally finance a jersey and give it to a young Bayern fan.
Shortly after, the former soccer professional stepped up to the line – and indeed failed to make any of his attempts. Embarrassed, he summarized his performance: “That was a complete disaster,” he announced over the arena microphone.
Hummels Shows Sportsmanship
Hummels shook his head but kept his promise and reiterated that a young girl would receive a new Bayern jersey at his expense. Arena announcer Lafere was pleased with the action: “Great. Tell us whether cash or card, we accept both.”
After the game, the former soccer player took plenty of time for his fans. Hummels was available for photos and distributed autographs until every fan had their wish fulfilled.
FC Bayern Basketball won the game 64:53, marking their second season victory in the EuroLeague.
