NBA coaching icon Gregg Popovich is honored by Spurs fans. Victor Wembanyama dominates with 31 points in the third victory.
First, the San Antonio Spurs honored their coaching icon Gregg Popovich, then basketball star Victor Wembanyama followed with another strong performance.
With 31 points, the Frenchman led the Texas team to their third victory in the third game of the new NBA season. In the 118:107 win against the still winless Brooklyn Nets, the headlines also belonged to Popovich.

Popovich had retired after a stroke in November 2024
“Pop 1390” was written on a banner that the Spurs raised to their arena ceiling without much ceremony – a reference to the 1390 victories the now 76-year-old had achieved in 29 years with San Antonio. Popovich had suffered a minor stroke in November 2024 and later withdrew.
Wembanyama was once again his team’s top scorer, and even 40 points from Cam Thomas didn’t help the Nets.
