Premier League: Liverpool legend declares crisis

Jamie Carragher is currently not enthusiastic about Liverpool FC

Liverpool FC is suffering one defeat after another in the Premier League. Reds legend Jamie Carragher has strong words for this situation.

Liverpool FC continues to lose ground in the Premier League. With the 2-3 defeat at Brentford FC, the defending champion suffered their fourth consecutive league defeat and dropped to seventh place. Afterwards, Reds legend Jamie Carragher spoke with clear words.

“I don’t think they have enough physicality,” said Carragher, who spent his entire career at Anfield, on Sky Sports . “For a team like Brentford or a team fighting against relegation, it would be a disaster to lose four games in a row.”

“In my opinion, we are in a crisis”

The former defender believes that serious questions must now be asked. Both to the players and to coach Arne Slot. “When you see the champion losing four games in a row and also consider the summer spending, then in my opinion we are in a crisis,” emphasizes Carragher.

Slot itself has already addressed the issue of lacking physicality. Immediately after the defeat, the Dutchman admitted that his team “had no answer” to the physical and direct football that has been beating them for most of the month. In addition to the defeat at Brentford, they lost league games against Manchester United, Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

For Slot, the most recent defeat was particularly bad. He described it as “the worst performance of my tenure” and admitted that opponents “have found a very good strategy against us.” In the table, the Reds are now seven points behind the leaders despite their summer spending spree.

Robertson also voices sharp criticism

Vice-captain Andy Robertson also expressed harsh criticism. “We simply weren’t good enough. We did too little without the ball. Brentford lives on second balls, throw-ins, balls in behind – and we knew exactly what to expect. Nevertheless, we were always one step too late,” he ranted in an interview with club media.

There was no functioning idea. “No Premier League team voluntarily gives you the ball. Everyone has a clear plan – Brentford executed theirs perfectly, we didn’t at all,” criticized the left-back. “If you think you come here, they sit back and you’ll eventually score your goal – then you’re completely on the wrong track.”

When Brentford scored the 3-1 after halftime, Slot immediately brought on four new offensive players. “Then it’s only about throwing people forward. That becomes chaotic – and without structure, that doesn’t help,” he said about it. He doesn’t accept excuses: “We have to work harder – in training, in games, in recovery.”
