Nick Woltemade scores another goal for Newcastle. The press celebrates him.
The successful run of Nick Woltemade continues unabated. On Wednesday, Newcastle won 2-0 against Tottenham in the League Cup – and the German striker once again played a central role.
The 23-year-old rose entered the air in the 50th minute and secured the final score with his header goal. Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky had misjudged the situation. The Telegraph celebrated the German after the match: “Newcastle already has a new hero with Woltemade.”
Woltemade makes the difference again
The Guardian also raved: “Woltemade continues his hot streak. If currently no player is more important for Howe’s team than Tonali, then Nick Woltemade isn’t far behind.”
The newspaper added: “The German center forward scored his team’s second goal with a header at the beginning of the second half after receiving a beautiful cross from Joe Willock and taking advantage of an unfortunate misunderstanding between Kinsky and Kevin Danso. And yet Woltemade, who has now scored six goals for Newcastle, claims that he’s much happier with the ball at his feet.”
The new signing from VfB Stuttgart has quickly filled the big gap left by Alexander Isak’s departure. While the Swede has had a difficult start at Liverpool after his record transfer, his German successor has felt at home since his arrival in August from the first minute.
Isak has only scored one goal at Liverpool. Woltemade, on the other hand, has already scored his sixth competitive goal in his eleventh appearance for his new employer.
Woltemade strongly replaces Isak
“I think I play differently than the other strikers they’ve had here,” Woltemade said recently.
He added: “The team gets to know me better with every game. I just want to have the ball at my feet most of the time, and if I can help the team, then I hope we can continue to achieve really good results.”
With the German national team attacker, Newcastle has gained a new component. Isak was outstanding with the ball at his feet, while Woltemade impresses not only with his footballing qualities but also with his heading game.
