The Norwegian biathlete Ida Lien is currently taking a break due to health problems. Apparently, the 28-year-old has been hit harder than initially assumed.
Concerns about Ida Lien: The Norwegian biathlete is currently suffering from back problems, but only seemed to have to miss the last hard test before the season opener in Östersund next weekend in Norwegian Geilo. But now the situation appears to be more complicated than initially suspected.
“That’s not how I wanted to start the season. After many back problems in the fall, I have now been diagnosed with a herniated disc,” Lien shared on Instagram. How serious the injury is still needs to be examined. The 28-year-old is therefore undergoing “various treatments” and especially hopes not to have to undergo surgery.
“Hope it doesn’t take too long”
It depends on this how long Lien has to pause. “I don’t know when I’ll be back on the starting line, but I hope it doesn’t take too long,” emphasized the Norwegian and wished her teammates good luck for the season starting at the end of November. For her, it is not the first health-related setback of her career. In recent years, Lien has repeatedly suffered from major back problems.
In the meantime, Lien had to take such a long break that she lost her place in the A-squad because she was no longer eligible in Norway due to her lack of fitness. But she didn’t give up and fought her way back. At the end of last winter, she achieved some top results. At the season finale in Oslo, Lien finished fourth twice.
Lien finished 24th in the overall World Cup, making her the third best Norwegian after Maren Kirkeeide and Karoline Offigstad Knotten.
