The New Orleans Pelicans from the North American professional basketball league NBA have fired head coach Willie Green after only two wins from the first twelve games of the season. This was announced by Vice President Joe Dumars on Saturday. Interim coach will be James Borrego, most recently an assistant coach with the Pelicans and former head coach of the Charlotte Hornets.
“When we repeatedly lose in the same way, that’s not an improvement,” Dumars said on the franchise’s website. The decision was made less because of the record, but because the fundamental competitiveness was lacking.
The injury-plagued Pelicans had conceded over 120 points in five season games, three times they lost by more than 30 points difference.
