Toni Kroos comments on Real Madrid’s problems and rejects comparisons to his time at the club.
Toni Kroos has spoken about Real Madrid’s form crisis. The former midfielder made it clear that comparisons with his era make little sense and that he should not be used as a benchmark for the current problems.
At an appointment with his academy in Boadilla, the 34-year-old explained that the constant comparisons to his ten years at Real only come up again because the club has not performed as expected since his departure in 2024 and he is therefore repeatedly addressed about his supposed “absence.”

Toni Kroos comments on Real Madrid comparison
Kroos looked back on his successful era at Real Madrid, in which he won five Champions League titles between 2014 and 2024. It is precisely this time that is now being used as a benchmark – a debate he no longer wants to have: “It doesn’t help anyone to continue talking about those who were there before.”
“I don’t need to be told that I’m missed”
He consciously chose his farewell. “I left with a smile and a beautiful title,” said Kroos. “I don’t need to be told that I’m missed.”
At the same time, he made it clear: “They have to find a way to win with other players.” He even wants the team to be successful in order to end the topic: “I am the first to prefer to see Madrid win so that this stops.”
Kroos: “I have little advice for Xabi”
He considers the comparisons between his legendary midfield generation and the current team to be inappropriate: “They are two different generations, a different way of playing.”
He also doesn’t want to lecture coach Xabi Alonso: “I coach a youth team, I currently have little advice for Xabi.”
The weak results of the past few weeks continue to put Real Madrid under pressure. In November, the club only won two of six games, and there were only drawn three times in LaLiga.
On Sunday evening, the capital club failed to beat Girona 1-1, which meant that the lead in the table passed to Barcelona.
Despite Real’s weak November results, Kroos sees no panic in the team: “I haven’t seen anyone who was very nervous.” He himself feels comfortable in his new role and looks to the future with composure: “I am satisfied with where I am. I have no plan for in ten years.”
