Martin Schindler fails in the 3rd round of the Darts World Championship. The German number one could not win a single set against Ryan Searle.
Martin Schindler has been eliminated from the Darts World Championship! The German number one lost his third-round match against Ryan Searle 0:4 in sets within 23 minutes.
Schindler only played an average of 89.89 points, paired with a checkout percentage of 13.3 percent. “It was due to the double percentage, that must be said clearly, he played below his capabilities,” analyzed SPORT1 expert Max Hopp, adding: “I want to express my sympathy with Martin, because when he left the stage, I saw how much the defeat hurt him.”

Martin Schindler eliminated from Darts World Championship
Schindler: “He was simply merciless”
After the elimination, Schindler said: “It would be a completely different game if I hit my double opportunities in the first and second sets. But I didn’t. He then ran over me. But I believed in myself at all times and even thought, when it was 0:3 against me, that I could still turn things around. He was simply merciless.”
He added: “It was still a good World Championship. It wasn’t a sensational World Championship, but still a good one. Today’s game wasn’t super bad, nor was it good. But it wasn’t like I was throwing with my left hand – that would be even worse. He punished me for everything, for every little mistake I made.”
Darts World Championship: Searle performs strongly
Searle averaged 102.29 points per turn and achieved a double percentage of 48 percent. “That was an excellent performance from him,” praised Hopp.
Schindler had a nervous start, because despite his scoring power, he had significant problems on the double fields. In the first set alone, he missed the double eight times (1/9). Searle was only marginally better at first (3/10), but this was enough to take a 1:0 lead.
“That shouldn’t actually happen”
In the second set, the scoring of the German number one worsened. He only managed to get four attempts at the doubles in total and hit one of them. Searle was more clinical in this phase of the match: After a strong 151 high finish, he checked out with his first set dart on double-20 to take a 2:0 lead.
“At the beginning, I had the feeling that my scoring was better. But if you don’t close those shots, especially with three darts in hand, which happened two or three times, that shouldn’t actually happen. Then it becomes difficult,” Schindler lamented.
World Championship surprise awaits “Heavy Metal”
Searle then became even more merciless and played a checkout percentage of 100 percent in the third set. He had a really good feeling on stage, which allowed him, among other things, to check out 100 points remaining with a single 20 and two double-20s.
In this set, Heavy Metal played an average of 104.86 points, making him about 20 points better than Schindler. The fourth set was similarly clear, as the German also lost it 0:3 in legs. “Martin certainly didn’t show his best game today. Then it’s sometimes not so easy to call up your best game. But I’m happy with the win,” explained the Englishman.
At the press conference, he further stated: “If someone had told me yesterday before going to sleep how I imagined the match, I would have said ‘exactly like that’. I was clinical on the doubles, but the match itself didn’t feel that good.”
Searle thus advanced to the round of 16 without problems and will face World Championship surprise James Hurrell there.
