Liverpool make a mistake despite Wirtz’s goal

Reds butterfly despite Wirtz cracker

Liverpool FC continues to wait for their first league win of the new year. Even Florian Wirtz cannot change that.

Despite Florian Wirtz’s next goal and dominant superiority, English football champions FC Liverpool are not gaining momentum in the new year.

The Reds had to settle for a 1-1 (1-0) draw against second-to-last FC Burnley at Anfield Road after taking the lead; for LFC, it was their fourth consecutive draw in the Premier League.

Florian Wirtz’s goal was not enough for the Reds

Wirtz (43.) gave Liverpool the lead with a powerful shot into the top corner, his third league goal. Dominik Szoboszlai had previously hit the crossbar with a penalty (32.). Marcus Edwards (65th) punished Arne Slot’s team, who squandered numerous chances.

Liverpool remained in fourth place, but the lead over Manchester United in the race for Champions League spots is now only one point. The Red Devils had won the derby against Manchester City 2-0 (0-0) at noon, marking the debut of their new coach Michael Carrick.
