Darts World Championship: Exit “hurt too much”
“I got nervous,” De Decker reported, speaking about his inner doubts: “When he won his first set, there was something in me that said: You’re going to lose this.”
The Belgian struggled with his mindset and explained that he just wanted to forget the World Championship after his exit: “I didn’t watch a second of the World Championship after I was out. It hurt too much.”
Darts Star Blocks PDC Channel
De Decker isolated himself from darts on social media. “You can block certain pages on Instagram. So I blocked the PDC and all darts-related accounts,” said the world number 19.
As a reason for his exit, De Decker stated that he had changed his equipment shortly before the World Championship but couldn’t cope with it at all. He lacked the adaptation phase with the new setup.
Mental Support as Help
“I was too stubborn to change anything early in the season,” the 30-year-old lamented, adding that he also worked on himself mentally after the World Championship: “I took steps I never thought I would take.”
De Decker did not elaborate further but explained that the help would enormously assist him in dealing better with certain moments and situations. “Mentally, I’m in a better place than last year – also with my darts,” the Belgian finally clarified.
