Schröder discoverer Liviu Calin (l.) takes over Braunschweig temporarily
Following the latest setback in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) relegation battle, bottom-placed Löwen Braunschweig has parted ways with its head coach Kostas Papazoglou.
The club of NBA star and shareholder Dennis Schröder released the Greek coach on Tuesday with immediate effect. Until a successor is found, Löwen veteran and Schröder discoverer Liviu Calin will manage the team on an interim basis.
Papazoglou had only taken over the head coach position last summer from Jesus Ramirez, whose assistant he had previously been. Most recently, the Lions lost at home against second-to-last placed MLP Academics Heidelberg (94:99), which was their sixth consecutive defeat.
Their next opponent on Sunday (4:30 PM/Dyn) will be the Hamburg Towers, who are 16th in the league table.
