After 16 months: Neymar celebrates return to Brazil’s national team

Neymar celebrates a dream start at Santos and was directly involved in all three goals in the second assignment in the 3-0 win against Inter Limeira. Trainer Pedro Caixinha already sees the Brazilian as the leader of the national team.

Neymar suffered a serious injury in 2023. 16 months later he is back in the national team’s squad.

Football superstar Neymar returns to the Brazilian national team after almost a year and a half.

As coach Dorival Junior announced on Thursday, the 33-year-old will be appointed to the contingent for the World Cup qualifier against Colombia (March 21/CET) and Argentina (March 26/CET).

“He is a player that the other players himself said publicly what he stands in our group. Of course we waited for him, ”said the coach.

Neymar had suffered a cruciate ligament tear in October 2023 during the qualification for the 2026 World Cup finals in the away game against Uruguay (0: 2) and has not played a game for the five world champion since then.

Neymar has been running again for his youth club FC Santos since February. Previously, Al-Hilal brought him to Saudi Arabia from Paris Saint-Germain in August 2023. But because of his cruciate ligament tear and later thigh problems, the offensive player was hardly used there.

In the World Cup qualification of South America, Brazil currently only shows fifth place with 18 sparks from twelve games. The first six of the ten teams solve the ticket for the 2026 tournament, which takes place in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
