The process of the death of Diego Maradona begins with high public sympathy in his home country. The prosecutor gives a sharp speech against the accused doctors – and stirs up the emotions with previously unknown photos.
Accompanied by loud demands of several dozen fans after justice, the process for clarifying responsibility for the death of Diego Maradona began in San Isidoro.
The public prosecutor presented the “Tribunal 3” shortly after the opening of the negotiation previously unknown photos of the body of the Argentine football idol, who died at the end of 2020 and was convinced of a conviction of the seven defendants.
“Nobody did what he should have done”
For the indictment, Patricio Ferrari in the courtroom held a picture of Maradona shortly after his death on his deathbed with a strikingly swollen belly. “So,” said the prosecutor, “this is how Maradona died.”
When reading the indictment, Ferrari had previously announced that it would show “solid evidence” in the process course that in the moments before Maradona’s death “none of the medical supervisors did what he should have done”.
An expert opinion, which had come to the public in the run -up to the process, contains the conclusion that Maradona would have had a better chance of survival during an appropriate treatment in a medical facility.
The process of Maradona’s death moves the emotions in Argentina to a great extent. Invisely jugoma -up, among others, Maradona’s former partner Veronica Ojeda lived in the process -in a T -shirt with the inscription “Justice for Diego” -as well as Maradona’s daughter Jana, Dalma and Gianina.
Maradona process: Seven accused accused
The seven accused, including Maradonas at the time Leopoldo Luque, are charged at the gates of Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires for negligent killing. As a maximum penalty, up to 25 years in prison are in the room. All accused reject the allegations.
The process is scheduled until July. The court wants to ask around 120 witnesses by summer.
Maradona died on November 25, 2020 two weeks after a brain emergency operation in a house in Buenos Aires rented for care. After initial conjectures of a heart attack, forensic medicine in the autopsy of Argentina’s adored world champion captain from 1986 determined serious lung edema as the cause of death.
