“Get better than in the mono”: Buckwitz is aiming for two medal

Lisa Buckwitz in Monobob

However, the competition among women is huge.

In the Monobob it was nothing with the title, in two of the women the Germans are clearly favored again – an exciting struggle should still be at the end of the World Championships in Lake Placid: defending champion Lisa Buckwitz (Oberhof) is optimistic, but does not go into the race as the first gold candidate. “I think that will be much better than in the Monobob,” said the 30-year-old, who had remained behind the expectations in a sled and ended the race as an overall World Cup winner in fifth place.

Now the next attempt takes place on a World Cup medal. When the first two runs start on Friday from 6 p.m. (CET), the competition is huge. Overall World Cup winner Laura Nolte (Winterberg), who had already won silver in the mono and is very well cope with the complicated curves, and Kim Kalicki (Wiesbaden) can make justified hopes of precious metal.

“We were very dominant for women (in the World Cup season, i.e. red.) And I just expect that we are here too,” said national coach RenĂ© Spies to the SID: “Even if the Americans will of course be very strong on this track.” Already in mono, the North Americans around world champion Kaysha Love convinced on her home track. Elana Meyers Taylor and Kaillie Humphries (all USA) also have a firm eye on the podium.

Buckwitz, who goes into the second weekend after the last run with a good feeling, is strengthened by Spies. “She knows that the two is a bit quieter, with less experience you can do more than in the mono,” said the 51-year-old about the former shearer: “I think she is very focused and knows that she is definitely fighting for a medal at the weekend.” These will be awarded on Saturday from 6 p.m. (CET) after the runs three and four.

A new triple success like a year ago in Winterberg will not be a sure -fire success.
