“Where I went to the hill today, emotions have already arisen again,” said Eisenbichler after his 41st place at the World Cup in Oslo – the first jumping after his withdrawal at the end of the season on ZDF : “Ski jumping was my life, my life is still burning for it.”
“At some point you have to say: it is enough”
Nevertheless, the 33-year-old emphasized that he was at pure with his decision: “At some point you have to say: It fits, it is enough. My body is not that fit anymore. “
Eisenbichler explained: “I always have knee pain, back pain – and I also like my life afterwards. There are many beautiful things like skiing, cross -country skiing – I will be on the move. “
Eisenbichler was a guarantee of success for the German team for a long time. Among other things, he won gold in the individual competition at the 2019 World Cup in Seefeld, plus five World Cup gold medals in the team, in Beijing he won 2022 Olympic bronze with the team. However, Eisenbichler has had to struggle in recent years, among other things, he recently missed the World Cup in Trondheim due to performance.
DSV sports director Horst Hüttel nevertheless recognized Eisenbichler as “one of the very big ski jumpers”.
