Fire in the night club: football professional dies when attempting to rescue

At least 59 fatalities are complained that 155 concert goers were injured in the accident.

Football professional Andrej Lasarow died in the devastating fire of a night club in northern Macedonia. As first division club KF Shkupi announced, the 25-year-old died to help other victims. Lasarow has succumbed to smoke poisoning.

“We will always remember his heroic act – as proof of his noble character and his big heart,” it said in a message. At least 59 people were killed in the fire in the “Pulse” club in the small town of Kocani. 155 concert goers were injured in the accident.

The sparks had lit the ceiling construction consisting of “slightly flammable material”, Northern Macedonia’s Interior Minister Pance Toskowski had explained. According to the AFP news agency, the public prosecutor is investigating more than 20 people, among other things, for corruption and bribery. 15 people were arrested.
