In an interview, wing player Raphinha reveals how Hansi Flick convinced him of the whereabouts at FC Barcelona.
The Brazilian Raphinha from FC Barcelona is currently in the form of his life.
In the Spanish league he is currently at 13 goals and ten assists. He is no less successful in the Champions League. In ten games he netted eleven times and prepared five more goals.
Raphinha stayed in Barcelona thanks to the Flick
After last season it didn’t look like it as if he were still becoming the radiant hero of his team.
“Things didn’t go well. I had a season behind me in which I couldn’t hold what I had promised,” the wing player told the Brazilian portal Globo.com on the sidelines of the international trip with his national team.
He had the feeling that “people ask me to go because I wasn’t good enough for the club”.
Raphinha thought about saying goodbye from Barcelona
Therefore, the 28-year-old was about to say goodbye to Barca. “I thought of leaving Barcelona after Copa América. I just didn’t feel comfortable.”
If Hansi Flick had not been signed as a new coach at the beginning of the new season, he would have put his project into practice.
But everything turned out differently. The arrival of the former national coach was “the turning point” in his decision -making, emphasized Raphinha. Flick convinced him to stay.
“Flick called me and asked if I would get into training before I decided,” said the Brazilian. “He wanted to talk to me because he counted on me.”
Brazil strikes Colombia scarce
After that, he only had to convince his wife himself: “I told her: ‘If this man is fair and recognizes my training services, I will make sure within a week that he loves me and will not regret it’. I think I was right with it.”
After the two World Cup qualifiers with Brazil against Colombia (2-1) and Argentina next Wednesday, he will return to his club in Barcelona.
With Barca, he then waits for Borussia Dortmund in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
