For the brothers Bö, the departure in front of his own compatriots – the old Rival Martin Fourcade, who had resigned in 2020, was also a goodbye on site – the perfect career end. “The sun is shining, it seems for us and all the people who are here,” said Tarjei: “We are so happy that the final here is on the Holmenkollen. We will never forget you all for the rest of our life. I will never forget this day.”

For years, the brothers had shaped the sport with their outstanding achievements. Especially the 31 -year -old Johannes Thingnes Bö, who had crowned himself as a record world champion in the last biathlon winter of his life – although he had to leave the overall World Cup Knapp Cup Sturla Holm Laegreid. “It is a great story that we are now leaving this World Cup together,” said the younger Bö at the ARD: “It was a very nice ride for us. And now it’s time to make it easy and to clear the stage for the next generation.”

The two of them did not yet comment more specific future plans: “On Christmas Eve, one does not ask what will happen tomorrow,” Tarjei replied to the Norwegian broadcaster NRK when asked.
