Italian football follows the German example when it comes to transparency in video evidence. As Serie A announced, referees in Coppa Italia will soon explain decisions after VAR intervention via the stadium announcement. At the beginning of the year, the German Football League (DFL) had started a test phase in nine German arenas. In addition, video screens in Italy’s stadiums show a review of the Var on the remaining league match days, which is also a practice in the Bundesliga.
The test phase of the announcements initially only affects the last cup games of the current season, including the Milan derby in the semi -finals (April 4 and 24). The aim is to “make the decisions more transparent and understandable for everyone,” said series A managing director Luigi de Siervo, “including the audience in the stands and the television viewers.”
