Andreas Wellinger can still hope for a gold medal. In the course of the suit scandal in ski jumping, there is a surprising rethink.
The next bang blooms for ski jumping! The German Olympic champion Andreas Wellinger can now hope for a subsequent gold medal because of the suit scandal at the World Cup.
This was confirmed by race director Sandro Pertile before the World Cup final in Planica of the dpa . The World Association FIS originally excluded such a consequence.
Andreas Wellinger can hope for the gold medal
“We didn’t know what happened on Saturday evening. You have to understand and understand the whole situation when this manipulation started. The decisions will then be very consistent,” said Pertile now.
Not only Wellinger would benefit
Wellinger had landed in second place in the individual from the normal hill – behind the Norwegian Marius Lindvik, who was disqualified for the big hill -like singles a little later as well as his compatriot Johann AndrĂ© Forfang.
If the result of the Norwegians is deleted, not only would well-be afterwards to be happy: his DSV colleague Karl Geiger would move from fourth place to bronze.
The two Norwegian ski jumpers had been pulled out of circulation because a stiff band had been sewn into their ski suits. So the wing of the suits was enlarged. The Norwegian association later admitted the attempted fraud, but the two athletes deny their knowledge.
The FIS commissioned an external commission with the investigation. Wellinger and Co. are probably not allowed to hope for a quick decision. This should only fall in summer. “First we need facts on the table,” said Pertile.
