The 2014 world champion feels a little like his comic hero.

Mats Hummels feels a little like his youth heroes Asterix and Obelix during his Italian adventures in the service of AS Rome. “Rome and Italy occurred very often in the comics. I didn’t see that I suddenly play here,” said the 2014 football champion at DAZN: “Rome and Italy played a role very early in my life.”

Hummels signed a one -year contract with the three -time Italian champion in September of last year after his contract had expired at the Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. Since then, the 36-year-old has experienced a sporty up and down with changeable performance among various trainers.

Outside the square, Hummel had to get used to the Italian standards. “The only thing that was a bigger problem for me was the road traffic,” said the central defender: “He was crazy, but I also got used to it. I feel very, very comfortable here.”

According to various media reports, whether Hummels has a future in Rome beyond the end of the season. Hummels does not want to be spoiled by the speculation. “I will always keep it so that I make my jokes – and above all I always deal with my own situation humorously,” said the veteran: “It has also happened to me in Germany that a little is deliberately misinterpreted to generate headlines. I don’t let it go crazy.”
