EM deal fix: German world champions come on free TV!

Basketball world champion Dennis Schröder is recognized in his home country of Braunschweig for winning the World Cup title and is entered into the Golden Book of the city on Friday.

The Cologne private broadcaster RTL secures a sublicent for the summer tournament and shows the German games live.

The games of the German basketball world champions at Eurobasket (August 27 to September 14th) are broadcast live on free TV.

RTL shows all German Europeans, the final in Riga and extensive highlights “as part of a strategic partnership” with the rights holder Deutsche Telekom. This broadcasts all 76 games of the tournament live with MagentaTV and Magenta Sport, the German games also free of charge.

“Basketball in Germany is booming and we are happy to be able to present the fans the next big championship on free TV,” says RTL sports director Frank Robens. The Cologne private broadcaster and MagentaTV continue their cooperation. Already the Basketball European Championships 2022 and the 2024 football European Championships also ran with a sublicent at RTL.

The organizer of Eurobasket are Latvia, Finland, Cyprus and Poland. The final round takes place in Latvia’s capital Riga. At the past European Championship with the decisive games in Berlin, Germany won bronze in 2022. In 2023 the World Cup title followed, in 2024 fourth place at the Olympic Games in Paris.
