Legend warns Hartenstein: “That should be motivation enough”

Isaiah Hartenstein plays his first season at the Oklahoma City Thunder. Sport1 spoke to him, among other things, about his commitment to Ratiopharm Ulm.

The German record international Patrick Femerling is critical of NBA-Star Isaiah Hartenstein on the Olympic Games. At Sport1 he calls for a commitment from the center.

NBA-Star Isaiah Hartenstein’s Oimpia statement continues to cause a stir. After Per Günther, Patrick Femerling also reacted to the statements of the German basketball professional.

He said in a dpa interview: “I definitely play the Olympics.” As for the other tournaments, he first has to see “how my body feels”.

Isaiah Hartenstein is one of the important pillars of the Oklahoma City Thunder

Femerling, with 221 international matches of German records, has an understanding of Hartenstein’s statement on the one hand. “Participating in the Olympic Games is the very big dream of very, very many athletes,” said the 50-year-old in an interview with Sport1 .

Femerling: “You also have to accompany the process for longer”

On the other hand, however, “you have to accompany the process for longer if you want to be there”, Femerling restricted and hits the same notch as ex-international Günther.

In the Magenta Sport Podcast “Department of Basketball”, with a view to those responsible in the national team, he had said that the question had to be asked “whether you want to let it go through it and whether you want to open the door for this raisin picking again”.

Sporty, Günther emphasized that the current main team of top team Oklahoma City Thunder has an incredible value.

But he and Femerling is about something else. “It is important to know that the players want to come to the national team that the players do not prefer to go on vacation, that players throw everything into the balance – especially emotionally in order to be able to bring top performances,” emphasized Femerling.

Femerling: “It’s not about making money”

“It’s not about making money. The players represent their land and play their buddies. This is a very, very special time. That should be motivation enough,” said the 2002 World Cup in 2002, a very clear demand for Hartenstein.

He himself played in the national team for over ten years, “liked to do it every summer, also took part in all qualification games and annoyed me when I wasn’t there,” recalls Femerling.

Femerling considers Hartenstein’s attitude to the national team only because of the published quotes. “Now of course you don’t know whether the complete interview was shown,” he said: “Isaiah did not categorically excluded that he would not be available to the national team at other tournaments.”
