After serious brain disease: emotional farewell for Olsson

Change home: Kristoffer Olsson

Kristoffer Olsson was emotionally adopted by the Danish first division club FC Midtjylland after his serious brain disease. The 29-year-old returns to his Swedish homeland-and wants to drive his comeback there as a football professional.

The 47-time Swedish soccer player Kristoffer Olsson was emotionally adopted by the Danish first division club FC Midtjylland after his serious brain disease. On Sunday, the 29-year-old was celebrated by the fans at the 0-2 against Bröndby IF and was considered with speech choirs and banners. At Olsson, an extremely rare inflammation of the brain vessels was diagnosed a year ago.

He is now on the way of improvement. The club announced on Saturday that the contract with Olsson was terminated. “He has won the most important game and is now pursuing what drives him in sports,” said sports director Peter Sand.

“I feel progress every week”

The midfielder returns close to his family and wants to continue driving his desired comeback as a soccer professional at his youth club, the Swedish first division team IFK Norrköping. “I feel progress every week, and I’m more hungry and more motivated than ever,” said Olsson, who says goodbye: “I will never forget the support and love that I received from the fans and the entire club.”

Olsson lost consciousness in his apartment on February 20, 2024 and was then admitted to the university hospital in Aarhus. There, studies showed that several blood clots had formed in the brain due to a rare inflammation of the blood vessels.

After moving to a rehabilitation clinic for neurological disorders, the player had regained “both motor and verbal abilities”.
