Goal scorer Robert Lewandowski is in the Spanish league leader FC Barcelona in goal mood – and sees an end to his good performances far away. “I know that a lot of people talk about my age, but I want to play at the highest level for several years,” said the 36-year-old after his double pack at 4-1 (1-0) about Girona at DAZN.
Lewandowski scored on Sunday in the 61st and 77th minute to 2: 1 and 3: 1 and paved Barcelona the way for the ninth league victory in a row. In the championship race, the Catalans remain three points ahead of arch -rival Real.
“I feel very well physically,” said the Polish international: “I think that if you look at the statistics, there is no difference a few years ago.” In the Spanish La Liga, he scored 25 goals in 28 missions. He leads the race around the Pichichi trophy for the top scorer in front of Real Madrid’s French superstar Kylian Mbappé (22 goals).
Trainer Hansi Flick knew that Lewandowski wants to win the trophy and distributed a special praise. “I gave him my full trust at the beginning of the season, he scored decisive goals this season,” said Flick: “I don’t like to talk about individual players, but he is a special player.”
