Curling World Cup: Germany keeps a chance for Olympic ticket

Victory against Sweden, bankruptcy against Switzerland: At the Curling World Cup, Germany is now going into the decisive phase.

The German curl must worry about the qualification for the 2026 Winter Olympics at the World Cup in Canada, but can still achieve their goal on their own. The team led by Skip Marc Muskatewitz initially prevailed 8: 5 against Sweden in the eighth game – then Germany collected a dampers in the 3: 7 against Switzerland.

With a record of four wins and five defeats, the German team is therefore ninth in the 13-league, in which it is played against every opponent. The best seven teams in the main round will be at the games next year. The European champion Germany is now starting the decisive phase in the fight for the Olympic qualification.

On the late Thursday evening (MESZ) it goes against the direct competitor Italy. On Friday, the games against top team Schotland and against the USA are waiting for their ticket for the games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo (February 6th to 22nd, 2026). With several victories, Germany still has the opportunity to qualify for the play-off phase-the top six teams will play the new world champion in the final round from Saturday.

The DCV team, fifth of the World Cup from 2024, is fighting for his first Olympic participation since Sochi 2014. If the direct ticket to Milan/Cortina does not work, there will be another chance in Kelowna, Canada. Two additional starting places are played there.
