The Italian is on trial for tax evasion. His lawyer advocates acquittal, the public prosecutor calls for a long prison sentence.
Trainer Carlo Ancelotti from Spanish football record champion Real Madrid must continue to fear a prison sentence in his trial for tax evasion. On Thursday, the public prosecutor’s office confirmed her demand to judge the Italian for a prison sentence of four years and nine months on Thursday.
“We see the facts of fraud, cover -up and omission as proven,” said the prosecutor. Ancelotti refers to “ignorance that he can hardly rely on.” The judges’ decision was initially postponed for an indefinite period.
Ancelotti will be accused of having hidden his income from image rights and other sources of income in the amount of over one million euros in 2014 and 2015 with the help of a “confusing” and “complex” system of mailbox companies to the Spanish tax authorities.
The 65-year-old himself had contested any intention to fraud the day before. “I never thought of cheating,” said the Italian and also claimed that he realized the remuneration system himself.
“Mr. Ancelotti hadn’t quite understood what he signed,” confirmed his lawyer Carlos Zabala on Thursday, referred to the contract between Ancelotti and Real and advocated acquittal. Zabala also accused the Spanish tax authority to suspend its clients “public humiliation”.
“I have full trust in law and justice and I don’t worry,” Ancelotti had emphasized in the run -up to the two -day hearing. According to a court document from 2023, which the AFP news agency was able to see a year ago, Ancelotti admitted the facts as part of the examination.
Ancelotti had trained Real for the first time from 2013 to 2015, after stations at Bayern Munich, SSC Naples and FC Everton, he took over the royal again in 2021. His contract runs until 2026.
