Former Bundesliga professional Luiz Gustavo was hospitalized on Saturday for pulmonary embolism “for observation and treatment”. As FC Sao Paulo announced about his social networks, the 37-year-old must also remain “the next few days” in the Albert Einstein Hospital.

He played between 2007 and 2017 in Hoffenheim, at Bayern Munich and also at VfL Wolfsburg.

According to the Brazilian first division club, Gustavo had complained about pain in the chest before Saturday training. The defensive midfielder played through the 1-0 win in the Libertadores Cup at the Argentinian representative Ca Talleres in Cordoba last Wednesday.

Gustavo initially came to TSG Hoffenheim in the summer of 2007, rose directly to the Bundesliga with the Kraichgauer and switched to Bayern Munich during the winter break in 2011.

From 2013, however, he played most (109) of his 245 Bundesliga games for VfL Wolfsburg before he said goodbye to Germany four years later.
