National coach Lisa Thomaidis nominates 16 players for the first course before the tournament.
The German national basketball team starts preparing for the European Championship (June 18 to 29) without the WNBA stars. The German Basketball Bund (DBB) announced the 16-member line-up around captain Marie Gülich for the first course from May 25th to June 1st in Bamberg on Friday. With this squad, national coach Lisa Thomaidis will also play the test game against the Czech Republic (May 31).
The German WNBA players, including Satou Sabally, Nyara Sabally and Leonie Fiebich, will “join the team at a later point in time”, the statement said. The WNBA season begins on May 16, the play-offs start in September.

DBB team meets Spain, Great Britain and Sweden
At the European Championship, the DBB selection in the preliminary round group D in the Hamburg Inselpark Arena meets the four-time European champion Spain, Great Britain and Sweden. As a co-host, Germany was automatically qualified for the tournament.
