Snowboard sport loses one of its biggest stars. The Austrian Daniela Ulbing ends her career due to motivation problems.
The Austrian snowboard ace Daniela Ulbing says goodbye to professional sports. The 27-year-old card had already taken a break in the past World Cup winter and is now drawing a final line.
Although Ulbing had actually planned to return for the Olympic season, she now had to see that a comeback would simply make no sense.
“Even after my break, I could no longer define performance -related goals and of course the motivation suffered. A few percent simply lacks to give everything in the preparation so that I can ride for victories and podium places in winter,” she clarified in a message from the Austrian ski association. Now “the right time has come to set new priorities”.
Ulbing: “proud of my success”
Ulbing is still missing Olympic gold in her collection, but was able to secure silver in the parallel giant slalom in the games of Beijing. The Villacher started thoroughly on her career and won gold in the parallelsalom at the 2017 World Cup at 19-year-old. Six years later, a World Cup silver medal was added in the parallel giant slalom.
Although Ulbing ends her career comparatively early, she looks back very positively and satisfied. “I have the feeling that I have achieved a lot, so I proudly look back on my career. I met a lot of great people and have had many valuable experiences that I don’t want to miss,” said Ulbing.
She is currently studying applied economics at the University of Vienna, but is already planning to return to snowboard sport in a different function. “I want to give back a little and I can well imagine passing on my experiences to the Snowboard offspring,” emphasized Ulbing.
