Biathlon surprise! Former DSV coach returns

The past biathlon season was one to forget for the German gentlemen. Overall World Cup winner Franziska Preuss and ex-Olympic champion Michael Rösch, summarize the situation of the DSV athletes.

After almost three years, ex-DSV coach Florian Styrer returns to the biathlon business-and becomes a shooting coach of the Swedish team.

The former DSV coach Florian Styrer returns to the Biathlon World Cup after three years of absence. As the Swedish biathlon association announced, the Austrian will work as a shooting trainer for the Scandinavians.

The weak results of the athletes are to be brought back to top level by Styrian. Stars such as Sebastian Samuelsson, Martin Ponsiluoma and the Öberg sisters Hanna and Elvira, have repeatedly had problems at the shooting range that often cost podium places.

Sports director Anna-Maria Uusitalo was pleased in a press release on the impulses of the former DSV coach: “With Florian’s help, we can be inspired and develop from the outside. We are confident that we are already maintaining a high level of shooting training, but see it as important to continue to be curious and to work on the development.”

Past career as a DSV trainer

From 2018 to 2022 Styrian was used as an assistant coach of the German women’s team and trained shooting with the athletes.

Steiner coaches overall World Cup winner Laura Dahlmeier and Denise Herrmann-Wick. Herrmann-Wick had only changed from cross-country skiing to biathlon a few years earlier and became an absolute top athlete under the guidance of the 43-year-old and two-time world champion and Olympic champion.

Styrian’s withdrawal from the biathlon business came as a surprise in 2022. He at least temporarily returned to the biathlon and became a national coach in ski mountaineering.
