Tragic reason: ski star becomes emotional when returning

Alexis Pinturault pulls his turns in the snow again. The long injured Frenchman is still in the thought in a tragically crashed ski hope.

The French ski star Alexis Pinturault is back on the boards. The 34-year-old posted a picture on social media on which he can be seen after his long injury break. Although these are pleasant news for all ski fans, the routine’s post also had a very sad note.

“First curves today with deep thoughts of Margot Simond and her family,” wrote Pinturault. He recalled the French hope that was crashed at the end of April.

As a French junior champion in slalom, Margot Simond was one of the largest talents in the country. However, Simond died at the age of 18 after a serious training accident in Val d’Isère. The ski jewel wanted to take part in the show event “Red Bull Alpine Park” and had an accident in a training run on the racetrack.

The event was canceled after the tragic incident. “The entire alpine ski community and I are shocked and deeply sad,” said Slalom-ace Clement Noel, who wanted to take part in the event himself.

Pinturault fights back after two serious injuries

With three gold medals at World Championships, three Olympic medals and a triumph in the overall World Cup, Pinturault is one of the most successful alpine stars of the past 15 years. After his outstanding 2020/21 season, the Frenchman was increasingly thrown back by injuries.

On January 12, 2024, he contracted a cruciate ligament tear in Wengen’s Super-G. Just a year later he fell at the Super-G from Kitzbühel and was seriously injured on the knee. In mind with the Olympic Games, Pinturault still decided to continue his career. He has already reached a milestone on the way back.
