Biathlon squad fixed! Surprise about German biathlete

The German Ski Association announces its squad lists for the coming winter. A biathlete is surprising.

With the announcement of the discipline squads for the coming winter, the German Ski Association (DSV) caused a big surprise on Wednesday. Because with Hanna Kebinger, a former great hope in the lists no longer appears.

The 27-year-old had not announced any resignation either. The DSV even increased its biathlon team from women from seven to eight athletes.

Selina Grotian, Janina Hettich-Walz, overall World Cup winner Franziska Preuß, Vanessa Voigt, Sophia Schneider and Johanna Puff stick.

Now Marlene Fichtner and Julia Tannheimer are added. But what about Kebinger?

Biathlon: Kebinger is missing in the DSV squad

The German biathlete had already been sorted out in February before the World Cup 2024 in the Czech Nove Mesto in February and no longer returned to the World Cup afterwards.

Kebinger had made its breakthrough at a top level in the winter of 2022/2023: At the home World Cup in Oberhof, she was part of the silver relay around Denise Herrmann-Wick and then set an exclamation mark with a fourth place in the mass start at the Holmenkollen.

After Herrmann -Wick’s resignation, many Kebinger saw – also within the DSV – as the new draft horse of the German team.

Stephanie Scherer, Lisa Maria Spark, Julia Kink, Anna Weidel, Charlotta de Buhr and Lea Zimmermann are available in the B squad.

Some changes in the men’s B team

The team with Philipp Horn, Johannes Kühn, Philipp Nawrath, Danilo Riethmüller, Justus Strelow, Simon Kaiser, Roman Rees and David Zobel remains unchanged among the biathlon men.

However, there were changes in the second row. Lucas Fratzscher, Leonhard Pfund and Linus Kesper keep their squad square, Fabian Kaskel, Franz Schaser and Elias Seidl new in the B team.

For the trio Scheiden Darius Lodl, Benjamin Menz and Philipp Lipowitz.

Heirs for Eisenbichler and Leyhe back

In ski jumping, after the resignations of Markus Eisenbichler and Stephan Leyhe, it was now decided who was moving.

Felix Hoffmann and Adrian Tittel join the established Karl Geiger, Pius Paschke, Philipp Raimund and Andreas Wellinger.

For Martin Hamann, Luca Roth, Justin Lisso and Constantin Schmid, the B-team continues.

The team gets significantly larger in the ski jumping ladies. In addition to Selina Freitag, Anna Hollandt, Luisa Görlich and Katharina Schmid, Agnes Reisch, Juliane Seyfarth, Alvine Holz and Emely Torazza can now also jump in at the World Cup.

So there are eight instead of four athletes.
