Football legend Frank Lampard has to say goodbye to the Premier League from his promotion space.
Big disappointment for Frank Lampard! With Coventry City, the British football legend has missed the finale of the playoffs for promotion to the Premier League.
In the semi-final second leg against AFC Sunderland, Coventry did not go beyond a 1-1-after the 1: 2 bankruptcy in the first leg, not enough to qualify for the final in the London Wembley Stadium.
Bitter: After 90 minutes, Coventry had led 1-0 and forced the extension. It was only in the 122nd minute host Sunderland hosts, in which Jobe Bellingham, the younger brother of ex-BVB star Jude Bellingham, in which the starting eleven stood, compensation and thus the move into the final.
Lampard disappointed after missed finale
“Anyone who saw the two games knows that we dominated at home; we made a mistake and they made. I think we also had big phases of superiority in the second leg,” said Lampard afterwards.
And further: “The players have given everything, especially when you consider where we stood in December – table place 17. We are not bitter, congratulate Sunderland, but we were seen the better team about the two games. So they will be so happy to go to Wembley.”
In the final on May 24th, Sunderland meets Sheffield United, who prevailed 6-0 against Bristol City after the first and second leg.
Leeds United and FC Burnley are determined as a fixed climber in the highest English division.
