Taiwo Awoniyi had to be operated on with the post after a collision and put into the artificial coma. He should now be awakened from this.
According to the English BBC, the former Bundesliga striker Taiwo Awoniyi woke up from the artificial coma on Wednesday evening.
Awoniyi suffered the injury last Sunday in the 2-2 against Leicester City. Already on Monday he was operated on and then moved to an artificial coma to promote recovery.
Taiwo Awoniyi suffered a belly injury
The wound is said to have been closed on Wednesday. A message from the club has so far been pending. Nottingham had announced on Tuesday, the Nigerian “has recovered well so far”.
Awoniyi, from 2019 to 2020 at FSV Mainz 05 and from 2020 to 2022 at Union Berlin, crashed into the post on Sunday when he tried to reach a flank.
Awoniyi continued
Awoniyi had been substituted in the 83rd minute and injured himself shortly afterwards. After a treatment break, Awoniyi had returned to the square, but had visible problems.
After the game, club owner Evangelo’s Marinakis stormed onto the pitch and had vigorously confronted team manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
On his Instagram profile, the Greek later played up the excitement as a frustration with a misjudgment of the medical staff with regard to the operational ability of Awoniyi.
The club also wrote in a message from a “common frustration” towards the medical team, which “should never have allowed players”.
