“Like in the monastery”: Biathlon star with hard victims for the World Cup dream

Franziska Preuß even avoided the Biathlon World Cup near Freund Simon Schempp. “Separate beds, separate bathrooms” – so her dream came true.

Franziska Preuß has developed the overall World Cup in biathlon with an iron discipline-even in her relationship with ex-world champion Simon Schempp. In the BR24SPORT podcast “Pizza & Pommes” she revealed that she lived partly like “in a monastery” in the season. The reason: fear of infections that could prevent a start.

“When Simon was on the road, it said: keep your distance, separate bedrooms, separate bathrooms,” said Preuss. Her friend showed understanding: “A failure is the maximum sentence.”

Physical contact? Only with caution

Nothing was left to chance in everyday life: “When Simon goes into the Championspark, then the consequence is that you sleep separately,” said Preuss openly. The two sports professionals would have often withdrawn in winter – all about professionalism.

Tears after the triumph

When the World Cup victory on the Holmenkollen was perfect, the tears flowed. “I drove in Simon in my arms. He witnessed everything – every injury, every setback. And he knew what this moment meant to me.”
