Luka Modrić Will Leave Real Madrid at the end of the season and will not sign a new contract. After 13 Years with the royal Whites, he will be bid farewell at the last home game of the season against real sociedad.
Now it’s official. As Real Madrid themselves have confirmed, Luka Modric will leave the club at the end of the season and will not sign a new contract.
Modric himself commented very emotionally on his departure on Instagram: “Dear Madridistas: The moment has come. The moment I never wanted to see coming, but that’s how it is in football, and in life everything has a beginning and an end… On Saturday I will play my last game at the Santiago Bernabéu.”
„Playing for Real Madrid has changed my life as a footballer and as a person. I am proud to have been part of one of the most successful eras of the best club in history. I would like to sincerely thank the club, especially President Florentino Pérez, my teammates, coaches and everyone who has supported me during this time,” Modric continued.
The departure had actually been indicated for some time. But in the past few days there has been a lot of speculation about the midfielder’s future, with indications even pointing to a stay. Real’s new coach, Xabi Alonso, is said to have spoken out in favor of the veteran staying.
But now it’s time to say goodbye. The Croatian will be bid farewell at the last home game of the season on Saturday against Real Sociedad and will leave the Madrilenians after 13 years.
A Success Story in Spain
At the age of 39, Modric can look back on an incredibly successful career. In 2012 he moved from Tottenham to the Spanish capital for a fee of 35 million euros. Since then, the Croatian has been showered with titles.
With the Royal Whites, Modric won four championships, was a two-time Spanish cup winner and won a total of six Champions League titles. He was able to crown his time in Madrid by winning the Ballon d’Or in 2018.
With Modric’s departure, the last remaining member of the “Bermuda Triangle” is now leaving the Royal Whites. Together with the German football legend Toni Kroos and Casemiro, the 39-year-old formed one of the most successful midfield trios in history.
Real coach Ancelotti raved: “I like to call the three the ‘Bermuda Triangle’. The ball disappears in there for the opponent.”

End of Career or Change?
It is still unclear what will happen to Modric after the summer. However, the Croatian himself often emphasized that Real Madrid should be his last club. It is not yet clear whether the Madrilenians will stick to the plan to take him to the Club World Cup and equip him with a short-term contract.
In the current season, Modric has made 55 appearances, scoring four goals and providing nine assists. The Croatian has already played 590 games for Real Madrid, contributing a total of 138 goals.
The departure may be related to the planned transfer of a new central midfielder in the summer. A move by Enzo Fernández is currently being discussed, with reports claiming that a verbal agreement on the transfer has already been reached.
