FC Liverpool could sweeten a potential move to Merseyside for Florian Wirtz with a special jersey number. Two numbers that have played a major role in Wirtz’s career are currently available.
Wirtz could, for example, play in the future with the “cult number” 23, which former club icon Jamie Carragher wore. But the also free 27 could be a “perfect gift” for the offensive star, as the newspaper expressed it.

Wirtz has a connection to both numbers: As a youth player, he initially wore the 23 in the U19s of Werkself, when he moved up to the professionals in 2020, the 27 became “his number” for three years. He even wore a necklace with this number. In 2023, the playmaker switched to the ten at Bayer.
The 27 was last assigned to Darwin Nunez at Liverpool in his debut season 2022/23, before he grabbed the number nine. Previously, the 27 was Divock Origi’s jersey number for a long time.
The ten is currently assigned to Alexis Mac Allister at FC Liverpool. The Argentinian world champion has been wearing the number since 2023, before that Sadio Mané and Philippe Coutinho played with the ten on their backs.
The poker about Wirtz took a new turn on Friday, after the 22-year-old, according to consistent media reports, rejected FC Bayern and should instead tend to a move to the English champions. Bayern President Herbert Hainer confirmed corresponding developments a day later.
Liverpool is now said to be working on completing the deal with Leverkusen. Wirtz’s contract with the Werkself runs until 2027.
