Xabi Alonso is getting his first superstar as the new coach of Real Madrid. The most valuable right-back in the world is joining Los Blancos.
Real Madrid has officially announced the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold. The transfer, which has been in the works for some time, is now official.
The English international is joining Los Blancos from FC Liverpool. It is the first transfer since Xabi Alonso was presented as the new coach.
Alexander-Arnold signed until 2031 – his new contract will come into effect on June 1st. He can therefore participate in the Club World Cup.
Free Transfer? Madrid is paying a crazy sum for a few weeks
Liverpool confirmed that they had accepted an offer from Madrid that would make a transfer possible at the beginning of the month. Previously, the player was under contract in England until June 30th.
As the Daily Mail reports on the island, Real is paying a hefty price for the deal brought forward by a few weeks: According to reports, the Spanish top club is paying ten million pounds (almost twelve million euros).
The immediate transfer is made possible by the introduction of an additional transfer window that FIFA had scheduled due to the Club World Cup (June 14th to July 13th).
The departure of the 26-year-old had caused great fan outrage in Liverpool. Alexander-Arnold was a homegrown player for the Reds, as well as co-captain and an identification figure.
Now he is taking the next step.
