Brazilian soccer idol Marta is returning to the big stage after her return to the national team. Just a few days ago, the 39-year-old striker celebrated her comeback in the Selecao, now she has been called up by national coach Arthur Elias to the squad for the Copa America in Ecuador (July 12 to August 2).

“She is in top form, she is a phenomenon of our soccer,” Elias said about the six-time world soccer player: “She is absolutely able to help us in this position.”

Marta, who had declared her career in the national team over after Olympic silver in the summer of 2024, returned to the squad a few days ago after nine months of absence for two test matches against Japan. The US champion Orlando Pride player even completed the second game as a starter.

After the lost Olympic final in Paris against the USA, Marta (201 international matches, 126 goals) originally stated that the home World Cup in 2027 was “no longer a personal goal” for her, but she added: “I will always be available to the Selecao if it is felt that I can still be useful during the preparation for the World Cup.”
