FC Arsenal from the English Premier League has signed Spanish international Martín Zubimendi. The 26-year-old midfielder is moving from Real Sociedad to the Gunners.
Reportedly, the Spanish first division club receives a transfer fee of 60 million euros. Arsenal made no statements about the contract duration – the club only spoke of a long-term commitment.
“Martín brings enormous quality and game intelligence to our team. He fits perfectly into our system and has all the qualities to become a key player,” said the Spanish Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta.
Zubimendi leaves his home club for the first time
For Zubimendi, it is “a huge moment in my career. It’s the move I wanted – and have been working towards. As soon as you arrive here, you feel how big this club and this team are,” he said.
In his career so far, Zubimendi has only played for Real Sociedad. He has made 236 competitive appearances for the club from San Sebastian.
With Spain, he won the silver medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Since then, he has made 19 appearances for the A-National team, with which he won the title in the Nations League in 2023 and the European Championship in 2024.
