First newcomer: FC Bayern gets ex-laker’s professional

Wenyen Gabriel, who represented South Sudan at the Olympics last year, has signed with FC Bayern until 2027.

Gabriel, who previously played in the NBA alongside LeBron James and Dennis Schröder for the Los Angeles Lakers, is the first new addition to the German basketball champions from Munich.

„His presence on defense is enormous, and he will continue to work hard on developing his skills on offense. The fact that he always leaves everything on the court will make him an excellent and recognized teammate for us,” said sporting director Dragan Tarlac.

Gabriel comes from Panathinaikos Athens

Gabriel, who can play as a power forward and center, has played a total of 164 games in the NBA for the Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets, Lakers, and Memphis Grizzlies. He comes from the Greek Cup winner Panathinaikos Athens.

In 2022/23, when world champion Schröder was under contract with the Lakers for the second time, Gabriel played 68 season games for the Californians. He never reached such a high number otherwise.
