Löw calls Müller a stroke of luck
“Thomas had an opportunity outside the penalty area and he hit the ball well. Just a bit of magic. We’re in the Magic Land. It was something straight out of the Magic Kingdom,” stated the Dane Jesper Sörensen, thus referencing Disney World in Orlando.
Joachim Löw also commented on his former protégé on SPORT1 Doppelpass on Sunday morning and was impressed by Müller’s performances: “It’s certainly a stroke of luck for American soccer or for the MLS when a player like Thomas Müller moves there.”
MLS acquired “world-class player Thomas Müller”
Müller received the ball outside the penalty area during stoppage time against Orlando and finished with his left foot after a brief dribble. Goalkeeper Pedro Gallese couldn’t parry the German’s powerful shot.
“It’s typical that guys with these qualities score these kinds of goals. Because they believe in themselves. He kept the ball low, didn’t just shoot, maintained his balance. In tight spaces, it’s difficult for the goalkeeper to see the ball,” analyzed Sörensen at the post-match press conference.
“We don’t need to talk about his career in Munich, but how he presents himself here, what qualities he brings to the team, how he’s involved in chance creation and pressure – it’s even more than we could have expected from him. He’s made a very quick and strong impression. His teammates have “strong faith that we have a player in Thomas who can do something like this when we need it most urgently.”
Vancouver captures first place in the West
The Vancouver-based medium The Providence struck a similar chord and raved about Müller’s quality: “Major League Soccer wants to be world-class. They’re acquiring world-class players like Thomas Müller.”
With the victory, Vancouver captured first place in the Western Conference, giving the Canadians home advantage in the first playoff round. The final match of the regular season against Dallas is in one week.
